My name is Salvador Serrano, and I am honored to serve as your current member of the San Jacinto College Board of Trustees.
Elected unanimously by my fellow trustees in December 2024, I have already made a positive impact on student achievement in this short period, and am now running for a full term with their unwavering support. I am humbly asking you to join me, as we continue this important work.
San Jacinto College is our pride. We have been recognized as one of the top 10 community colleges in America, and we remain committed to the success of our broader community – through partnerships with over 15 different local chambers of commerce and economic development organizations, wraparound services, and programs like the Promise @San Jac which have helped more first-generation college students realize their potential.
As a lifetime resident of Pasadena, and proud graduate of Pasadena ISD, I have a deep understanding of the importance of these programs to us. My own story, from being a first-generation college student to building a successful business, shows the value of education in breaking down barriers. By making education accessible, we are investing in our community’s rich diversity and our shared success. I am a bilingual trustee, and the board’s first male Latino representative; my commitment to being a voice for our community is personal.
As the newest trustee, I am eager to build upon the achievements of our college in breaking down barriers to learning, including initiatives such as food markets, foster care support, healthcare resources, housing assistance, mental health counseling, financial aid programs, veteran services, and more. I am proud to work alongside a dedicated board that shares a common vision for student success and safety, and will continue to prioritize student, and staff, well-being as we grow.
In addition to my role at San Jacinto College, I have been a visible and committed community This includes my active involvement in the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, Pasadena ISD Education Foundation, Pasadena Economic Development Corporation, and more.
My commitment to our community, coupled with my background as an entrepreneur in Pasadena, alumni of our schools, and father of two future San Jac students, have equipped me with a wealth of knowledge and personal dedication to be your representative on the San Jacinto Board of Trustees.
I humbly ask for your support in the upcoming election, by casting your vote to keep me in my current position as trustee at Position Three.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. Your involvement means a great deal to me, and I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving our entire community in this capacity.
Priorities
-
As a successful entrepreneur and business owner, I share the board’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency and will use my management background to ensure the budget is financially sustainable, and aligned to San Jac’s priorities of student wellbeing, safety, and success.
-
Initiatives like The Promise are designed to address barriers and create pathways for success, the board can expand those investments so they can deepen their impact for all our students and families, including our Latino community.
San Jac can enhance childcare programs to provide eligible students with necessary care assistance.
We can focus on supporting our veterans and their families by offering educational planning, enrollment assistance, certification programs, educational benefits, and other essential services for those who have served our country honorably.
-
We should seize the opportunity to continue mental health counseling services for students and staff. Our board can be a leader in providing robust mental health support, creating a safer campus that nurtures the academic and personal growth of all members of our community.
